Make vocabulary stick with this missing step.
I used to learn like this:
Long vocabulary lists → forget vocabulary the next day.
Now I learn like this:
Interesting material → Interesting vocabulary → remember vocabulary better.
It took me a while to realize I was missing this key step.
Learning vocabulary in isolation without seeing it in action is hollow.
It’s like learning country names without seeing where it is on the map, without seeing pictures of the place or traveling there. Hollow and easily forgettable.
Now I don’t focus on vocabulary first.
Instead, I focus on the material. I focus on the content.
Because I know that if I get the content right, the vocabulary will flow naturally after.
So I don’t start with a list of vocabulary I “should” learn. I start with material and content that I am excited to learn.
The first approach is boring and dry and leads to me forgetting what I learned.
The second approach ensures I only learn what I’m interested in so I have more fun and remember more vocabulary.
Making vocabulary stick is a consequence of learning from the right material.
What is the best content?
If your goal is to speak Mandarin and have better conversations, native material is the best.
It may seem harder and more daunting but with the right system, it’s easier and will get you converational faster.
I help you do this in Chinese Speakers.
My goal is to help you remember more vocabulary, have more fun doing it, and get conversational faster.
The first step is to hop on a call with me to optimize your study plan so that it is fun and fits your lifestyle (while studying less than 30 minutes per day).
